Rock Specimen Set, Hand Processed, Basalt & Coarse White Marble, 2 x 6 Pack

This EISCO rock specimen set gives geology teachers and earth science students a raw basalt 6 pack and a coarse white marble 6 pack, so an igneous rock and a metamorphic rock can be studied together. Each specimen is approximately 1 inch long and easy to handle during demonstrations and group work. Basalt is an aphanitic igneous rock with dark coloring and a dense, fine grained texture, suited to igneous rock classification and identification lessons. Marble is a metamorphic rock formed from limestone through high pressure, low heat alteration, and although it is much denser than limestone it will still effervesce in acid, which makes it useful in identification exercises. Every specimen is selected and hand processed by a geologist in Victor, NY, and is packaged, labeled and barcoded for identification and storage. Use the pair for rock type comparison lessons, identification stations or end of semester practicals, or set it aside when preparing earth science labs for the January term. Included: 6 raw basalt specimens and 6 coarse white marble specimens. Acid, droppers, hand lenses and other geology tools are not included.

Product Features

  • Igneous And Metamorphic: This EISCO set pairs six raw basalt specimens with six coarse white marble specimens, each approximately 1 inch long. The two packs let students compare an igneous sample and a metamorphic rock side by side
  • Basalt For Classification: Basalt is a dense, fine grained aphanitic igneous rock, which makes it a clear example for igneous rock classification lessons. Its dark coloring stands out beside the white marble pieces
  • Fizzes In Acid: Marble is a metamorphic rock formed from limestone through high pressure, low heat alteration. Though much denser than limestone, it still effervesces in acid, which makes these marble samples useful in identification exercises
  • Hand Processed In NY: Each basalt and marble specimen is selected and hand processed by a geologist in Victor, NY, so every piece shows its defining features. That makes the pair a focused rock collection for geology teaching
  • Barcoded Bags Included: Each rock sample is packaged, labeled and barcoded for easy identification and storage in the science classroom. Acid for the effervescence test, droppers and hand lenses are not included
